Speaker Bio

 DD Johnice is a serial entrepreneur and accomplished strategy and innovation executive who has built a successful career of solving problems that matter to my employers, customers, and society. Throughout her 20+ year career, DD has held leadership roles focused on the human and talent, business model, product, technology, and marketing aspects of innovation.

As Chief Creative & Strategy Officer of The Wonder Guild, a consultancy she founded in 2000, DD has built a global following of senior leaders whom she advises on systems design and environmental, social, and governance (ESG)-based growth models. Through this, and creative and strategic leadership roles in the healthcare, retail, advertising, media, and professional services industries, DD has founded new teams and businesses, built new capabilities, integrated newly acquired firms and assets as the post-integration and communications director, and led transformative change management efforts for process automation, reorganization, and business and market exits.

At Blue Shield of CA, DD led a multidisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, designers and strategists as the VP, Health Transformation Lab. The team partnered across the enterprise to design and develop partnerships, products, and services that make healthcare more affordable, equitable, and valuable to members, healthcare providers, and customers. In-market products/services include: Doula services as covered benefits for black mothers and birthing people (Medi-Cal, buy-up for Commercial PPO), Community Health Advocates and social needs referrals as covered benefits (Medi-Cal), in-home wellness, urgent, bridge, and post-acute care services (Medicare, Medi-Cal, Commercial PPO), Health@Home site of care optimization algorithm, and Real-Time Claims automated revenue cycle management.

Prior to joining Blue Shield, DD led the Digital Health and Community Health & Social Innovation teams at Kaiser Permanente, a $90B integrated health system. She and her team applied technology and startup economy approaches to tackling the social determinants of health and created an affordable housing accelerator to incubate solutions to the health effects of homelessness and housing insecurity. The result: $500M+ shepherded into housing as medicine. The team also co-designed a system of apps and services to improve access to mental health resources for community college students of color.

DD is fond of saying “innovation is an ecosystem sport”. And through her work and thought leadership, she has developed and nurtured a diverse, global community of innovators who share her passion for technology and a commitment to making the world a healthier, more equitable place.
